About Larry:
Larry was raised on a small family farm outside of Owatonna, MN. His parents, Alvin & Helen Schultz, have always farmed organically. When farm chemicals came into use in the 1950’s & 60’s, they never changed their farming practices. When Larry started farming in the mid 1980’s, he followed in their footsteps using organic methods. He started selling eggs in the Twin Cities and metro area in 1992. He decided to certify organic in 1998 to more accurately describe what our products really are. We have always tried to provide the very best quality products at the lowest possible price.
You may remember seeing “Schultz Chicken” in the early to mid-1990’s. At that time you could not call meat organic, so we labeled it as “all natural, free-range, no hormones no antibiotics administered.” Our meat is still all those things, but meat is now allowed to be called organic.
Farming organically is a way of life for the Schultz’s. The family farm is a 3rd and 4th generation farm and has never been farmed conventionally with herbicides, insecticides, or artificial fertilizers.
OUR STORY
Our Organic Eggs:
Schultz chickens are cage free, they are free to eat and exercise anywhere comfortably within an airy sunlit barn, or to roam outdoors in grassy fence free fields, when weather conditions are favorable. Schultz chickens are free-range, certified organic and have no hormones or antibiotics administered during their lifespan. Their barns and farm yards are carefully watched over and protected from predators. This is all part of providing Schultz chickens with a stress free environment that allows the flock to develop into healthy, happy birds that make delicious and nutritious eggs. Schultz eggs are high in Omega-3 fatty acids because of the Flaxmeal that we mix into their organic feed. They are also very high in the anti-oxidant vitamin E. To ensure that you are receiving the freshest and highest quality eggs, we candle and grade them right away.
Our Organic Chicken & Turkeys:
Schultz Organic Chickens and Turkeys from Larry Schultz Organic Farm represent a serious commitment to organic farming. Schultz chickens and turkeys strut their stuff as organic meeting both Global Organic Alliance (GOA) and USDA guidelines and certifications.
They are fed certified organic feed which contains no antibiotics, herbicides, or pesticides. Minnesota winters can pack a punch, but once we get through the winter it's always a treat to swing open the barn doors and watch as the chickens charge outside to enjoy the many wonders of nature. The turkeys are raised seasonally through the summer and fall months. They enjoy the out doors once they are feathered and ready for summer. You will find that Schultz chickens and turkeys are more flavorful, succulent, and enjoyable than their commercial comparisons. They have that old fashioned flavor, the way chickens and turkeys used to taste. I think you’ll agree there isn’t a more tasty bird around!
Organic Demand Increases:
Demand for organic eggs, chicken, and turkey continues to increase. As Larry Schultz Organic Farm has grown, Larry's neighbors and friends have started raising organic crops to help with the organic feed for the birds. The small organic family farm is a way of life for Larry. Not willing to compromise the small farm and its many benefits, Larry helps other small organic farmers model his farming practices. Therefore, you can be assured the same great tasting, healthy, and organic products to which you are accustomed.
